
[—]Higuey, Dominican Republic– Four members of a family of Indian origin residing in the United States drowned at a beach on the eastern tip of Dominican Republic.
Amado Ávila, director of Civil Defense in the province where the incident occurred, said the victims were three men and a woman between 27 and 33 years.
Three of the victims were traveling with US passport and document the fourth with India but it was also a US resident, explained the official told The Associated Press.

The incident occurred Sunday Macao beach, 210 kilometers east of Santo Domingo, when one of the men was swept by a wave and three others tried to rescue him.
Only one man was rescued alive by rescuers but died in the ambulance that took him to a hospital. Macao beach «where bathing is very dangerous, very strong currents,» said Avila.
He said the group was part of a family of a dozen people vacationing from the previous week in a hotel resort of Bavaro-Punta Cana. The group had rented a bus to travel to the beach, north of the resort.
The bodies of four people remained Monday in a funeral home waiting for that family made arrangements for their transfer.
